The Gorman-Rupp Company - A Formula for Success

When you find a formula that works, stick with it. That's just what the Gorman-Rupp Company of Mansfield, Ohio has discovered when it comes to aviation. Since their first Bonanza in 1947, the Gorman family has owned a number of Beechcraft including a Staggerwing, a Duke, several Bonanzas, a Queen Air and a series of King Airs. They have an aviation background deeply rooted in the Beech family of aircraft, and for years Stevens Aviation has been an important part of their successful equation.

"Stevens has always been very quick and responsive to our needs," states Gorman-Rupp's chief pilot, Jim McClead. "They treat us as if we're their number one customer." The Gorman-Rupp Company, a manufacturer of pumps and related equipment, was an Ohio Aviation customer when Stevens Aviation purchased that facility in 1987. Due to the location's full service capability and proximity to their Mansfield based aircraft the Gormans gave Stevens (DAY) a try. They have been loyal customers ever since.

"Stevens does our maintenance, avionics, you name it," Jim says. "It's nice when you have one provider for everything. It entails a certain amount of accountability on their part." The pre-purchase inspection on the last aircraft the Gorman-Rupp Company sold clearly demonstrated this. "The Beechcraft Service Center that did the pre buy said it was the cleanest, most squawk free aircraft they'd seen. They were very impressed and so was I."

Of course Stevens couldn't have such successful customer relationships without our outstanding employees. Jim can quickly recall many instances where Stevens Aviation personnel far exceeded his expectations. One occurred on the tragic morning of September, 11 2001. Jim Gorman was west of Dayton in his Duke when ATC shut down the airspace and cleared the sky. Before Jim could even call into the Dayton facility, Mick Waltz anticipated his need for a rental car in what would soon become a shortage of all ground transportation. "Mick's preemptory thinking really helped," Jim McClead states. "He's one of so many people that keep us coming back to Stevens - the people are what makes Stevens Aviation so successful."
